Abstract

This paper traces the long and dynamic trajectory of Indian painting from Paleolithic cave art through the medieval and early modern schools to contemporary practices. Emphasizing continuity and transformation, it examines major stylistic phases, materials and techniques, socio-religious patronage, colonial and nationalist influences, and the pluralizing forces of globalization.
