Merger and Acquisition of Commercial Banks in India

Abstract

The paper explores the Punjab National Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India to merge, Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank to amalgamate. Mergers aim to create fewer but stronger banks with larger balance sheets, better capital adequacy, and wider reach. The government announced the merger of 10 nationalized banks into four large lenders. Merger is a good idea.
