Deepfake Technology and the Protection of Women's Dignity: A Legal Analysis

Deepfake technology is an innovative form of artificial intelligence. Through the process of deep learning algorithms, the digital media landscape has evolved. The uses of deepfake technology span innocent use in realms like entertainment and education, where there can be advancements in technology using it. However, deepfake technology has also opened up risks of being used to violate someone’s privacy, tarnish reputation, and commit crimes that question human dignity. Lack of consent for deepfake pornography, identity theft, online harassment, and other forms of abuse brought forth some difficulties for legal systems across the world. Women are the main victims of the abuse perpetrated through this technology, which seriously affects their health and life quality. In the
paper, the Indian legal framework is underlined, inclusive of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the constitutional rights assured by Articles 14, 19, and 21.
